The West African Examinations Council has released the results of the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination for School Candidates; the body announced on its official X handle on Wednesday, 5 August 2026.

Out of 1,950,726 candidates who sat the examination, 1,200,514, representing 61.54% obtained credits and above in at least five subjects including English Language and Mathematics. Approximately 1.96 million candidates from more than 24,200 secondary schools across Nigeria wrote the examination, which ran from 21 April to 19 June 2026.

While the majority of centres used the traditional pen and paper format, a significantly larger number of schools than in previous years opted for the computer based testing option. WAEC had earlier indicated that results would be released approximately 45 days after the final paper.

Candidates can access their results on the official result checking portal at waecdirect.org after generating a Personal Identification Number and serial number on the WAEC website at waec.org. To retrieve the PIN, candidates are required to select the serial number and PIN menu on the website, choose the appropriate examination year and diet, enter their examination number and the National Identification Number used during registration, then provide an email address and phone number to generate a One Time Password for verification. See the full steps to check the WAEC results here.

WAEC also confirmed that candidates can download their WAEC ID Card to their mobile devices through the same portal.

Separately, WAEC Nigeria issued a public alert on Wednesday warning candidates and the public to disregard a circulating document purportedly from the council, which listed schools whose results had allegedly been withheld over malpractice in the 2026 WASSCE. The body stated categorically that the document did not originate from WAEC.

The release follows WAEC's earlier announcement of results for the Computer Based West African Senior School Certificate Examination for Private Candidates, 2026 First Series.
