The National Youth Service Corps has declared that prospective corps members who fail to obtain clearance from the National Electronic Registration Database will not be mobilised for national service, as the scheme intensifies preparations for its next orientation exercise.

The directive was published in a public notice on the scheme's official X account on Monday, with NYSC urging prospective corps members to complete the process without delay. "This is to inform PCMs that without NERD clearance, no NYSC. Get your NERD clearance early. Avoid delays in your mobilisation," the scheme stated.

Reiterating the mandatory nature of the requirement, NYSC added: "NERD clearance is compulsory for all PCMs. No NERD clearance, No NYSC!!!"

The scheme did not provide additional details about the clearance process in the notice, though the directive signals a stricter verification regime ahead of the 2026 Batch B orientation exercise. The NYSC had announced mobilisation of a fresh batch of prospective corps members shortly before the advisory, urging institutions and eligible graduates to complete all required documentation.

The NERD clearance directive followed a separate safety advisory issued by the scheme in which prospective corps members were warned against travelling to orientation camps at night. NYSC advised them to break their journeys when necessary and lodge in safe locations or designated military and security formations rather than risk night travel. The advisories reflect growing concerns over security conditions on Nigerian highways.

Prospective corps members are expected to complete all registration and verification requirements, including the newly emphasised NERD clearance, before reporting for orientation camp.
