Students, academics, media professionals, and communication leaders gathered at MAD House, University of Lagos, on July 29 for the Campus Edition of Pivot Nigeria: Reframing the Lens, a national reputation initiative urging young Nigerians to project a more balanced image of the country.
Organised by HighStakes PR Professionals Limited, the Campus Edition marks the next phase of Pivot Nigeria, taking its conversation on reputation, identity and authentic storytelling directly to Universities. The campus edition represents the next phase of that vision by taking the conversation directly to Universities, where future leaders, entrepreneurs, journalists, and policymakers are being shaped. The campaign debuted at UNILAG, marking the first phase of a nationwide University engagement programme designed to transform students from passive observers into active ambassadors of a more balanced Nigerian narrative.
Opening the event, Convener Victoria Uwadoka challenged young Nigerians to look beyond dominant narratives and represent the country with purpose. "Nigeria's challenges are real, but they are not the whole story. Every day, millions of Nigerians are building businesses, advancing science, preserving culture, creating globally celebrated art, mentoring young people, and solving real problems. Pivot Nigeria exists because the world deserves to see the fuller truth about who we are," Uwadoka said.
The initiative comes at a time when Nigeria continues to grapple with international perceptions dominated by insecurity, corruption, and economic hardship, issues that experts say have affected investor confidence, tourism, youth optimism, and global partnerships. Organisers stressed that the goal is not to pretend the country has no problems but to encourage a more balanced conversation that recognises both its challenges and its resilience, innovation, and opportunities.
Pivot Nigeria was launched in 2025 by HighStakes PR Professionals Limited and has since evolved from an annual conference into a year round national thought leadership movement focused on inspiring belief in Nigeria through authentic storytelling, constructive dialogue, and collaborative action.
A key outcome of the UNILAG event was the launch of the Pivot Nigeria Campus Collective, a student led network established to sustain advocacy through storytelling projects, digital campaigns, dialogue sessions, and community initiatives. Members will also take part in a 30 Day Challenge designed to promote responsible citizenship, balanced storytelling, and purposeful leadership across campuses, with student leaders Aborede Feyisara and Adewunmi Oluwasemilore elected to coordinate the UNILAG chapter.
She added that reputation is built not only through communication but through the daily choices and values of citizens.
