Lead City University, Ibadan, has strengthened the capacity of its Safety and Security Unit and Hostel Management Unit through a training programme aimed at improving campus safety, student welfare and service delivery.

The capacity building workshop, held at Adeline Hall in two batches to accommodate staff from both units, was facilitated by Dr Ayobami Owolabi under the auspices of the Institute of Personality Development and Customer Relationship Management (IPDCRM). Approved and sponsored by University Management, the training focused on equipping participants with the knowledge, practical skills and professional attitudes required to perform their responsibilities more effectively.

The programme covered the fundamentals of campus intelligence, SWOT analysis of campus intelligence, customer relationship management, reasons customers leave organisations, student relationship management and techniques for handling difficult customers. Participants were also trained on customer service attitude and evaluation, with emphasis on delivering effective services to students, parents, staff and other stakeholders within the University community.

According to the Institution, the initiative forms part of its efforts to create a safe, welcoming and well managed campus environment while improving the quality of interaction between staff and members of the University community. A major component of the programme was an Attitudinal Checklist completed by participants to assess their workplace attitudes and behaviour, designed to measure their understanding of the concepts taught, identify areas requiring improvement and reinforce lessons from the training.

Speaking on the significance of the training, organisers noted that strengthening the capacity of staff responsible for security and hostel management was essential to maintaining a safe campus environment and improving students' overall experience. The training also emphasised the importance of understanding students as key stakeholders and responding professionally to their concerns, particularly in difficult interactions.

Those who attended included the Head of Marketing and Alumni Relations, Dr Deborah Adejobi, the Assistant Registrar in the Office of the Deputy Registrar, Corporate Communications and Students Services, Dr Henrietta Adeyemo, the University's Chief Security Officer, Lt. Col. Oluade (rtd.), and the University Hostel Administrators/Heads, Mrs Josephine Adeoyo and Mr Olawale Akode.

Participants are expected to receive Certificates of Attendance and Competence from IPDCRM in recognition of their successful participation and commitment to professional development and service excellence. The Institution described the initiative as a reflection of its continued investment in staff development as part of broader efforts to improve campus security, student welfare and service delivery.
