The Lagos State University of Education (LASUED) is set to host the second edition of its Teaching Practice Summit on Thursday, August 13, 2026, at the Senator Oluremi Tinubu Hall, Oto/Ijanikin Main Campus, from 10am.

The event, organised by the University's Directorate of Teaching Practice, is themed "Repositioning Teaching Practice Excellence: Strengthening Partnership for Quality Teacher Education in Lagos State."

The Vice Chancellor of LASUED, Professor Bidemi Bilkis Lafiaji Okuneye, will serve as the Chief host of the summit, while the Director of the Directorate of Teaching Practice, Dr Akinkuotu Foluke Abimbola, will host proceedings.

The Chairman of the Teaching Service Commission, Mrs Perigrino Victoria Mopelola, is billed to deliver the guest lecture at the summit. Discussants are expected to include the Tutor General/Permanent Secretary, Education District I, Dr Olufunke Idowu Oyetola, and the Tutor General/Permanent Secretary, Education District V, Mr Hassan Dauda Abiodun.

Organisers said the summit is designed to foster stronger partnerships and advance excellence in teacher education across Lagos State, with all guests expected to be seated by 9.45am ahead of the event.

The Directorate of Teaching Practice held the maiden edition of the summit in 2024, where stakeholders examined challenges affecting teaching practice among undergraduate teachers in the state and proffered solutions. At that event, the then Acting Director of the Directorate, Dr Foluke Abimbola Akinkuotu, identified mentorship and support, practical experience, and feedback and enhancement as vital areas for improving the quality of teaching practice.

Speakers at the maiden summit also called for government support in creating a conducive learning environment for student teachers, with discussions centred on the impact of teaching practice on the overall quality of education in the state.

The second edition is expected to build on those conversations, bringing together University management, education administrators and other stakeholders to strengthen collaboration around teacher training and classroom readiness for student teachers preparing to enter the profession.

The maiden summit had also featured seasoned educators who advocated for closer synergy between students and lecturers, stressing the need for teachers to have a solid grasp of subject matter to effectively guide learners in the classroom.
