Forty six graduates of the Bachelor of Nursing Science programme at Lagos State University College of Medicine have been called upon by University management and the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria to uphold ethics, professionalism, and compassionate care as they step into the nursing profession.

The charge was delivered at the 7th Induction and Oath Taking Ceremony held on Friday, July 31, 2026, at the Medical Sciences Building Auditorium, LASUCOM.

Representing the Vice Chancellor of LASU, Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji Bello (mni, NPOM), the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics), Professor Oseni Afisi, reminded the newly inducted nurses that their certificates carry weight beyond academic achievement. "Your certificates are a badge of responsibility, a call to serve and a covenant to uphold the highest standards of ethics," he stated, adding that LASU remains committed to producing graduates distinguished by competence, integrity and professional excellence.

The Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of NMCN, Dr. Ndaji Alhassan, represented by Dr. Umar Gambo, congratulated the graduates and urged them to build their professional practice on the knowledge, clinical skills and experiences gained during training. He described the induction as the official start of their careers, noting that significant responsibilities now rest on them as certified polyvalent graduate nurses, and encouraged lifelong learning and continuous professional development.

The Provost of LASUCOM, Professor Olufemi E. Idowu, described nursing as a profession rooted in human connection rather than clinical procedure alone. "Nursing is not merely a career of tasks and medications. It is a profound human connection," he noted, urging graduates to pair intellectual excellence with compassion. He also acknowledged the sacrifices of parents, families, lecturers and mentors throughout the graduates' academic journey.

Goodwill messages came from the Chief Medical Director of LASUTH, Professor Adetokunbo O. Fabanwo, and the Director of Nursing Services at the Lagos State Health Service Commission, Nurse Adebukola O. Cole, who both urged the graduates to build on their knowledge, show compassion in patient care and remain resilient professionally.

Academic awards were presented to Nurse Adeyemi O. Fatima, Overall Best Graduating Student, and Nurse Lawal Temidayo Samuel, Best in the Registered Nurse Examination, marking another step in LASUCOM's commitment to producing ethically grounded, globally competitive nursing professionals.
