Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has approved a new salary structure for academic and non academic staff of Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology, Wudil, and Northwest University, Kano, with payments set to commence in September 2026 and backdated to January 2026.

The approval was contained in a statement issued by the governor's spokesman, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, confirming that the new remuneration package was adopted from the Federal Government's salary review implemented across federal universities nationwide.

The decision followed recommendations from a committee constituted by the State Executive Council to examine requests from both institutions to domesticate the federal salary package.

The combined monthly financial implication for both universities is ₦391.85 million, amounting to ₦4.70 billion annually. Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology accounts for ₦228.20 million monthly, comprising ₦141.08 million for academic staff under the ASUU agreement and ₦87.11 million for non academic staff under the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities. Northwest University requires ₦163.65 million monthly, with ₦112.24 million allocated to academic staff and ₦51.41 million to non academic workers.

The state government has approved ₦1.57 billion in the 2026 Supplementary Budget to cover payments from September to December 2026, while arrears totalling ₦3.13 billion covering January to August 2026 will be provided for in the 2027 Budget.

The governor also approved the constitution of visitation panels for both universities and other tertiary institutions in the state, with the panels expected to strengthen accountability, administration and effective management across the institutions.

Yusuf reaffirmed his administration's commitment to improving workers' welfare and strengthening higher education quality as part of its broader human capital development agenda.
