The Governing Council of Sokoto State University approved the elevation of several academic staff members to the professorial cadre and reader positions during its 33rd Meeting held on August 4, 2026. The administrative body ratified the promotions following rigorous peer reviews, external assessments, and recommendations evaluating the teaching performance, research output, and community service contributions of the scholars.
The promotions produced two full Professors, with Dr Hafsat Olatunji advancing to Professor of Economics and Dr Saheed Ahmed Rufai promoted to Professor of Curriculum Studies. The appointments reflect academic contributions within their respective fields, expanding the senior academic leadership across the social sciences and education faculties at the Institution.
In addition to the professorial appointments, the Governing Council confirmed six scholars for the rank of Reader. The newly appointed Readers include Dr Faruku Aliyu in Education Chemistry, Dr Murtala Marafa in History, Dr Godwin Onuh Odeh in Political History, Dr Nasir Muhammad Hassan in Mathematics Education, Dr Shamsu Deen A Ahmad in Chemistry, and Dr Bashar Saadu Isa in Educational Management.

University authorities noted that the career advancements reinforce the academic standards of the Institution, encouraging the promoted scholars to maintain high research productivity and continue mentoring junior academics within the University community.
