Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde approved the appointment of Dr Lasisi Taiwo Abideen as the substantive Rector of The Polytechnic Ibadan on August 5, 2026, alongside three other substantive principal administrative leaders. The decision ends a 21 year period during which administrative management positions at the tertiary Institution were occupied in acting capacities.

The administrative restructuring also confirmed Dr Olajide Taiwo Sherifat as Registrar, Mr Adegbola Abiodun Kolawole as Bursar, and Mr Osunrinade Olukunle Akinbola as Librarian for the tertiary Institution. All four appointments took effect from July 31, 2026, and carry a single, non renewable tenure of five years.

Explaining the selection framework, Commissioner for Education Science and Technology Olusegun Olayiwola disclosed that the recruitment exercise followed due statutory process and extant state regulations governing state owned tertiary Institutions. The selection procedure commenced with formal public advertisements across national newspapers, culminating in screening interviews conducted by the Governing Council under the leadership of Chairman Professor Lanre Nassar.

Commissioner for Information Dotun Oyelade highlighted that the executive confirmations aim to restore governance stability, support institutional growth, and reinforce academic standards across all faculties within the Polytechnic.
