The American University of Nigeria, Yola, has received approval from the National Universities Commission to introduce five postgraduate programmes in Law and Economics, effective from the 2026/2027 academic session.

The approval followed a successful resource assessment by the commission and was announced on Wednesday in a statement by the university's Executive Director of Marketing and Communications, Yusuf Mohammed.

The approved programmes are the Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy in Economics, as well as the Postgraduate Diploma in Law, Master of Laws and Doctor of Philosophy in Law.

AUN President, Dr DeWayne Frazier, described the approval as another milestone in the university's graduate education journey, stating that it reflected the steady growth of the School of Graduate Studies and its increasing contribution to research, scholarship and academic excellence. He noted that the school had recorded significant enrolment growth over the past three years, strengthening the university's research output and national influence.

The Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences, Prof Bolade Agboola, said the approval of the Economics programmes represented a natural progression of AUN's existing undergraduate Economics programme. He expressed confidence that the university's faculty and facilities would produce graduates capable of competing globally, adding that the new programmes would create opportunities for advanced study, interdisciplinary research and professional development.

Agboola further stated that the approval reaffirmed AUN's commitment to developing ethical leaders, advancing knowledge and providing practical solutions to national and global challenges. The programmes will admit their first students in the 2026/2027 academic session.
