Imo State University, Owerri (IMSU) has debunked a circulating notice claiming that its 2025/2026 second semester examinations have been suspended, describing it as a doctored version of an official press release.
The University's Public Relations Unit disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday, explaining that the authentic release, titled "Notice To Students: 2025/2026 Second Semester Examinations Have Commenced," had been altered to bear the false title "Notice To Students: 2025/2026 Indefinite Industrial Strike Action."
According to the Unit, the fraudulent version falsely claims that all academic activities have been suspended for five months, a position it insists does not reflect the University's official stance.
"The official position of the University remains as stated in the authentic press release issued today," the statement read, urging members of the public to ignore the fake notice and disregard any instructions contained in it.
The Unit also called on students and the public to report further circulation of the doctored document, adding that the University was investigating its source and would take appropriate action. It warned that anyone who acted on the false information would do so at their own risk.
Reiterating the authentic notice, the Unit confirmed that the 2025/2026 second semester examinations had officially commenced, noting that false rumours claiming a postponement had been circulating among students.
Students were advised to disregard the rumours, as no official postponement had been issued by the University. The Unit stressed that any student who absented himself or herself from examinations based on such false information would be held responsible for the consequences, in line with University regulations.
The University further urged students to take their examinations seriously, avoid examination malpractice, and report promptly for all scheduled papers, stating that it remained committed to maintaining a fair, orderly, and secure examination environment for all.
